ABT Structures

Alternative Building Technology (ABT) Structures

We have a housing crisis in South Africa, people live in overcrowded spaces and there is a need for radical solutions. Our objective is to assist government and private sector to address the shortfall of promised homes to South Africans that have not yet been built, which exceeds 1.7 million homes. BDN designs, manufacture and erect various building structures using Alternative Building Technologies (ABT). ABT could vary in a magnitude of technologies such as:

  • EPS(1) & IPS(2) panel (used by BDN)
  • Light steel/timber frame structures with various cladding options i.e. rockhard board, fibre cement board, sandbags
  • Old shipping containers
  • Prefabricated light weight bricks and panels

Common applications:

Temporal relocatable units (TRU), housing (single/double story buildings), student accommodation, rental units, lodges/hotels, Police stations/guard houses, class rooms, clinics/hospitals etc.

Benefits:

Fast and easy Installation and transportation (takes +/- 1 day to build a +/-40 m2 house), cost effective, reduced impact on the construction area with 0% wastage, perfect thermal insulation surface, life span of +50 years, can be dismantled and relocated many times, fire rated, comply to building and engineering standards SANS517, Agreement SA etc.
